      How compatibility is scored

      Ashtakuta compares two people's Moon nakshatras and signs on eight criteria, from temperament (gana) to constitution (nadi). A total of 18 or more is traditionally acceptable for marriage; 24 or more is considered good. Several kutas are not symmetrical, so it matters who is the woman and who the man.

      What the calculator leaves out

      The 36 gunas are a quick filter. A full compatibility check also considers Mangal Dosha for both, the 7th house and its lord, Venus and the navamsha, and whether difficult dashas coincide. The couple reading in the JyotiSoft bot does that.

      How to read the table

      Each row shows one kuta and its points out of the maximum. A zero nadi (0 of 8) or bhakoot (0 of 7) deserves a closer look than the total: tradition reads it together with its cancellation rules and the full charts. High gana and graha maitri point to a similar temperament and easy understanding, yoni to physical closeness, tara to how well the nakshatras support each other.

      How many gunas are needed for marriage?
      Traditionally at least 18 of 36, with nadi and bhakoot read together with their cancellation rules. The score is one part of compatibility, not a verdict.
      Why does it matter who is the man and who the woman?
      Varna, vashya, gana and some other kutas use directional tables: swapping the partners changes the points.
      Does it work for business partners?
      No. Ashtakuta is a marriage system; it is not used for friendship or business.
