Articles on Vedic astrology

Jyotish explained without mysticism or fear: how a Vedic chart works, what dashas and Sade Sati are, how compatibility is scored. Every date and number in these articles is checked against the same calculation JyotiSoft uses for charts.

What is Jyotish

Vedic astrology in plain words: where it comes from, how it differs from Western astrology and what a chart can tell you.

The lunar nodes: the axis of desire and release, their 2026 transit and their dashas.

36-guna compatibility

Ashtakuta: the eight kutas of Moon-based compatibility, the score out of 36 and what it means.

Navamsha (D9)

The ninth-division chart: Jyotish's second most important chart — marriage, strength, dharma.

Divisional charts (vargas)

Raja and dhana yogas

Combinations of success and wealth: how raja and dhana yogas form and when they deliver.

Gaja Kesari yoga

Neecha bhanga

Cancellation of debilitation: when a weak planet becomes strong.

Combust planets

Asta: what happens to a planet close to the Sun and the orb for each graha.

Retrograde planets

Vakri grahas: why planets appear to move backwards and what it means natally and in transit.

Panchang

The five limbs of the Vedic day: tithi, vara, nakshatra, yoga and karana.

Tithi (lunar day)

The 30 lunar days: how a tithi is counted, the five groups and the key ones — Ekadashi, Purnima, Amavasya.

Muhurat

Choosing an auspicious time: panchang, the event's nakshatra, tara bala and your own chart.

Rahu kalam

The daily inauspicious segment: how it is calculated and what to avoid in it.

On 25 November 2026 the nodal axis changes signs: Rahu to Capricorn, Ketu to Cancer.

On 2 June 2027 Saturn enters Aries, its sign of debilitation: Sade Sati shifts for three Moon signs.

Eclipses of 2027

Annular on 6 February, total on 2 August and three penumbral lunar eclipses: dates and meaning.

Upayas (remedies)

What remedies are in Jyotish, the kinds there are, and why behaviour matters more than amulets.

Gandanta

The junctions of water and fire signs: what gandanta is and why it need not be feared.

Why programs show different charts

A different lagna, Moon nakshatra or dasha dates in two apps: seven reasons charts disagree and how to compare them yourself.

Ayanamsha

Lahiri, Raman, KP, Pushya: how the ayanamshas differ, how far they move the Moon and the dashas, and which one to use.

North and South Indian chart styles

Diamond or square: how to read the North Indian, South Indian and East Indian chart, and why they hold the same content.

When will I get married: the chart

Which factors Jyotish looks at for “when will I get married”, and what astrology cannot promise.

Rahu mahadasha

Eighteen years of Rahu: how to read the Rahu mahadasha from your chart, how long each antardasha lasts and why it need not be feared.

Atmakaraka

The planet with the highest degree in its sign — Jaimini's “significator of the soul”: how to find it, what it means and how chara karakas differ from fixed ones.

How we calculate and write

JyotiSoft's method: what calculates the charts, how dates are checked, who writes the texts, what a later tradition is and how to report a mistake.

How we build a forecast

The five steps of our forecast: the birth chart, the Vimshottari dasha, K. N. Rao's double transit of Jupiter and Saturn, the fast planets and the house of the event — and what a forecast cannot do.

Questions and answers

Short answers to common questions about Jyotish: “when?”, doshas, birth time, different charts, compatibility, money and health, upayas — with links to the full articles.

How Jyotish answers “when?”

Dashas, antardashas, transits and prashna: how an astrologer looks for timing, what of it is reliable and how to ask about time so the answer is useful.

Shadbala

Six kinds of planetary strength in one number: what Shadbala counts, the minimum each planet needs and how to read the result.

Ashtakavarga

A scoring system: how many points each sign receives from the seven planets and the lagna, and how it is used to read the support of houses and the fruit of transits.

Yogini dasha

Upaya: what the classical texts actually prescribe

What the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra prescribes for a hard period: worship of the graha, a counted mantra, homa and giving.

Mantra, giving and gems: the order of the tradition

The order of upayas at JyotiSoft: mantra and giving are the foundation, then the gem for your chart as the tradition chooses it, with its cautions.

How and why upayas work: tradition and research

How the tradition explains upayas, and what research says about mantra, breathing, ritual and giving.

Garbhadhana

The Vedic rite before conceiving a child: why the tradition chooses the night, how it is chosen and how both parents prepare.

How the articles work

Each article opens with a short answer — the “In short” box — then explains the topic in depth and ends with questions and answers. Links lead into the reference: nakshatras, planets, signs and houses. We rely on the classical texts — Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, Saravali, Phaladeepika — and use no Western techniques or planets discovered with a telescope.

Dates and calculations

Transit, retrograde and eclipse dates here are not copied from other calendars but calculated: sidereal zodiac, Lahiri ayanamsha, true lunar node. They match what you see in your own chart in the Mini App and the bot. When sites disagree on a date (Rahu's change of sign, for example), the cause is usually the mean node instead of the true one, or a different ayanamsha.

What you will not find here

We do not promise healing, wealth or a guaranteed marriage and we do not frighten readers with “terrible” yogas. Jyotish describes tendencies and periods; decisions about health, money and law belong with professionals.

Questions

Where do the dates in the articles come from?
From JyotiSoft's calculation: sidereal zodiac, Lahiri ayanamsha, true node. The site's tests check every date against the calculation.
Can I apply an article to my own chart?
Yes: the Mini App calculates your chart, and the full PDF reading explains what it means for you specifically.
Will there be new articles?
Yes — especially ahead of important transits and eclipses.
