The five main steps of reading the chart

The steps and their order are those of the book “Jyotish for Parents”.

    1. Step 1. The lagna and the 1st house The rising sign: reading starts here; it speaks of temperament and of how the child shows themselves.
    2. Step 2. The Moon’s nakshatra The Moon is mind, feelings and habits; its nakshatra hints at inclinations and interests worth noticing.
    3. Step 3. The 5th house — creativity, learning, interests The 5th house’s sign, the planets in it and its lord: what the child enjoys on their own and how learning comes easier.
    4. Step 4. The 10th house — directions of activity How the child shows themselves in action. Not a “future profession”, but areas worth trying.
    5. Step 5. Rahu and Ketu The axis of growth: Ketu is what comes easily, Rahu is what attracts and asks for growth.

    What the calculator shows

Your birth chart in North or South Indian style, the positions of the nine grahas (sign, degree, house, nakshatra), the current dasha and plain-language notes.

Why the chart may differ from other sites

We calculate the way Jyotish does: the sidereal zodiac with Lahiri ayanamsha. Western services shift the planets by about 24°, so the Sun sign there is often different. More

If the birth time is unknown

Tick “Time unknown”: the planets stay right, but the lagna and the houses need the time. How to find the time

    Questions

    Is the chart calculator free?
Yes. The chart, the table and the explanations are free and need no sign-up. A full reading — a long interpretation, the periods and a year ahead — is the paid PDF or the bot.
Why is my Sun sign different from my newspaper horoscope?
Because Jyotish uses the sidereal zodiac: the signs are shifted by the ayanamsha, about 24° today. Someone born on 5 April is Aries in a newspaper horoscope and Pisces here.
Is this a North or a South Indian chart?
Both. By default it is North Indian: the houses keep fixed places and the lagna is at the top. The switch above the chart shows the South Indian chart, where the signs stay fixed. The data is the same in a different frame.
    What does ℞ mean?
Retrograde: seen from Earth the planet appears to move backward through the zodiac. The lunar nodes Rahu and Ketu are almost always marked, because they move backward by nature.
Which settings does the chart use?
Sidereal zodiac, Lahiri ayanamsha, whole-sign houses, true lunar node and the Vimshottari dasha from the Moon's nakshatra — the same as in the bot, the Mini App and the PDF.
