Notes in the table:

  • Mahadvadashi: the fast is kept on the Dvadashi day
  • Ekadashi is mixed with Dashami before dawn: the fast moves to the next day
  • The Ekadashi tithi ends before the next sunrise (kshaya)

Delhi is the reference city: the other cities on this site are compared with its dates.

How to read the table

The fast day is the day on which the fast is kept. Parana is the window on the next morning in which the fast is broken: after sunrise, once the first quarter of Dvadashi (Hari Vasara) has passed and before Dvadashi ends. If only “after …” is given, the window opens after that time. The name of the Ekadashi, the half of the month and a note on any special case are in the middle column.

Special cases in the table

Mahadvadashi is when the Vaishnava rules move the fast to the day of Dvadashi. Dashami-viddha means Ekadashi is mixed with the tenth tithi before dawn, so the fast moves to the next day. Kshaya means the Ekadashi tithi begins and ends between two sunrises. On such days the Smarta calendar sometimes names another date.

Questions

When is Ekadashi in Delhi?
All the fast days of 2027 are in the table at the top of the page: the date, the name of the Ekadashi and the parana time in the local time of Delhi.
Are the dates in Delhi the same as in India?
Not always: the rule is decided by the dawn of the city itself, and some Ekadashis fall on a neighbouring day. Under the table you can see how the dates of this city differ from Delhi.
How do I break the fast?
Within the parana window in the table: the next morning after sunrise, once the first quarter of Dvadashi has passed and before Dvadashi ends.
Do I have to keep every Ekadashi?
No, it is a personal choice. Strict forms of the fast are not advised for people with health conditions, pregnant women and children; decide with a doctor.
