What the calculator shows

For your birth chart: the sign, degree, house and nakshatra of Rahu and Ketu, a short reading of the axis they form, your Atmakaraka and Darakaraka, and the sign the nodes are in now with the date they move on and the house of your chart they will activate.

How Atmakaraka and Darakaraka are counted

In Jaimini astrology the planets are ranked by degree within their sign. The highest is the Atmakaraka, the soul's significator; the lowest is the Darakaraka, the significator of the partner. Schools disagree on whether Rahu takes part: the eight-karaka scheme counts Rahu backwards (30° minus its degree) and is the default of Jagannatha Hora and of this calculator; the seven-karaka scheme leaves the nodes out and is used for Karakamsha. When the two schemes name different planets for you, the calculator shows both.

Rahu and Ketu transit 2026–2028

The nodes move backwards through the zodiac, about 18 months in each sign. For the true node (the one used in our charts): on 25 November 2026 Rahu enters Capricorn and Ketu Cancer, and on 24 May 2028 Rahu enters Sagittarius and Ketu Gemini. Calendars that use the mean node print other dates: 5 December 2026 and 23 June 2028.

What the result does not tell

These are short readings from classical rules. They name themes of a chart, not events, and they do not replace a reading of the whole chart: the nodes are judged together with their lords, aspects and the running dasha.

Which planet is the Atmakaraka?

The planet that has travelled the furthest inside its sign, that is, the highest degree from 0° to 30°. Signs do not matter for the ranking, only the degree.

Seven or eight karakas — which is right?

Both are used. Jagannatha Hora and most modern software count eight karakas, with Rahu; the older seven-karaka scheme leaves Rahu out. If they agree for your chart there is nothing to choose; if not, you see both.

Why does another site give a different date for Rahu's ingress?

Our date is the true node, the position the astronomical calculation gives at each moment. Many calendars print the mean node, which is smooth and changes sign a week or two later.

Do I need the birth time?

For the nodes' signs and the transit dates, no. The houses need the lagna, so they need the time. Without a time the Moon is taken at noon, which can shift the ranking if the Moon is close to the top or bottom.
