The 9th house rules fortune and dharma, the father and teachers, higher learning, faith and long journeys. It is the strongest trikona; its karakas are Jupiter and the Sun.

What the 9th house rules
Bhagya bhava, the house of fortune, shows grace, luck and the support that arrives without being earned in this life. It is the house of dharma — principles, religion, philosophy — and of the people who teach it: the father (in north Indian usage), the guru, mentors. Pilgrimage, higher studies and long-distance travel belong here.
Planets in the 9th house
Jupiter in the 9th is a classic sign of wisdom and fortune. Benefics give faith, good teachers and luck. Malefics can bring unconventional beliefs, distance from the father or a hard-won philosophy; Rahu often gives foreign travel or study abroad.
When the house comes alive
The 9th house activates in the dasha of its lord, of Jupiter or of the Sun, and when Jupiter transits the 9th from the Moon. Such periods bring help from teachers and elders, pilgrimages, higher studies, long journeys and a general feeling that luck is on one's side.
9th lord
The 9th lord is the most auspicious lord of the chart. Linked with the 10th lord it forms the dharma-karma adhipati yoga, one of the strongest raja yogas: the right action at the right time.
