What the period is about

Mars signifies courage, siblings, land and property, engineering, surgery, the military and sport. Its period pushes people to act: start a business, buy property, compete, defend something. Energy is high; patience is usually not. Many people remember a Mars dasha as a time when they finally did something they had postponed.

What decides the results

Mars is strong in Aries and Scorpio and exalted in Capricorn; in Cancer it is debilitated. For Cancer and Leo ascendants Mars is the yogakaraka and its dasha can be outstanding; for Gemini, Virgo and other lagnas where it rules the 6th, 8th or 11th, its energy comes with more strain. The house Mars occupies is the arena: the 10th gives career drive, the 4th property, the 7th intense partnerships.

The antardashas

Mars/Mars is short, about five months. Mars/Venus is the longest at just over a year. Mars/Rahu, nearly as long, combines two fiery energies and is watched for impulsiveness. Mars/Jupiter and Mars/Moon are traditionally among the better sub-periods, combining action with wisdom or feeling. Mars/Saturn brings two rivals together: effort, delays, and a need to channel frustration into work.

Living it well

Physical exercise, competitive goals and practical projects use Mars energy well; idle frustration turns it into conflict. Care on the road and with tools is classical advice for a Mars period and plain common sense. Traditional remedies include Hanuman worship and Tuesday fasting; the tradition gives a red coral when the whole chart supports it.
