Gemini (Mithuna) in Vedic astrology

The nature of Gemini

Gemini is air in motion: thought, speech, contact. As a dual sign it adapts and holds two points of view at once. Mercury makes it quick, witty, verbal and commercially minded. The symbol is a couple — Gemini is also about pairs, partnerships of ideas and the arts of exchange. No planet is exalted or debilitated here in the classical scheme.

Gemini ascendant and Gemini Moon

A Gemini ascendant gives a lively, youthful, talkative person who learns quickly and needs variety. Mercury is lagna lord; Venus, ruling the 5th and 12th, is a friend; Mars (6th and 11th) brings gains through effort. A Gemini Moon needs mental stimulation and conversation, and can be restless or nervous when bored.

Gemini in a chart

The house that holds Gemini is where you are curious and communicative, and where you may spread yourself thin. Planets in Gemini express themselves through words and ideas.

The third sign of the natural zodiac echoes the 3rd house: younger siblings, writing, short journeys.

Nakshatras in Gemini

Gemini holds the second half of Mrigashira, all of Ardra (Rahu's stormy, analytic nakshatra) and the first three padas of Punarvasu (renewal).
