Schools of Jyotisha

Jyotisha has several schools, each with its own techniques and its own view of the chart. In JyotiSoft four of them look at a question independently, in the “Council of schools”, and a moderator brings their conclusions together.

Ask the Council of schools

Four schools answer your question independently, and a moderator shows where they agree and where they differ.

NameIn short
ParashariHouses, planets and vimshottari dasha: the most widely followed school
JaiminiSigns, chara karakas and sign-based dashas
KP (Krishnamurti Paddhati)Nakshatra sub-lords, Placidus cusps and precise timing
Tajaka and AshtakavargaThe annual chart of the Sun's return and the strength of transits

Why several schools

Vedic astrology did not grow out of a single book. Parashari works with houses, planets and the dasha periods; Jaimini with signs, the karaka planets and sign-based dashas; KP with the sub-lords of the nakshatras and exact house cusps; Tajaka with the annual chart of the Sun's return. The schools sometimes agree and sometimes argue, and that is their value: when different methods point to the same period, it deserves a closer look.

The Council of schools

In JyotiSoft's “Council of schools” each school sees only its own data and answers on its own, without seeing the others. A moderator then shows where the schools agree, where they differ and why. It is a way to look at one question from several classical angles instead of trusting a single method.

Questions

Which school is right?
Each school is a complete tradition with its own logic. They are not rivals but different instruments; a conclusion that several of them reach independently is the most reliable.
Which school does JyotiSoft use by default?
The main calculations (the chart, dashas, transits, Panchanga) follow Parashari, the most widely used school. The other three join it in the Council of schools.
Do I need to know astrology to use them?
No. Each answer is written in plain words, and the moderator explains where the schools agree and where they differ.
