How to check Sade Sati yourself: four steps

1. Your Moon sign. Find the Moon's sign in your Vedic chart — the sidereal one, not your Western Sun sign.
2. Three signs. Sade Sati is the time Saturn spends in the sign before the Moon (12th from it), in the Moon's sign itself and in the next one (2nd). That is about 7.5 years.
3. Saturn's dates. Look up when Saturn enters and leaves those signs. When retrograde it can return to the previous sign for a few months.
4. It comes back. Saturn circles the zodiac in about 29.5 years, so Sade Sati comes two or three times in a life.

How Sade Sati is counted

Saturn takes about two and a half years to cross a sign. Sade Sati (“seven and a half”) begins when it enters the 12th sign from the natal Moon, continues while it crosses the Moon's sign and ends when it leaves the 2nd sign from the Moon. Three signs × 2.5 years ≈ 7.5 years. Retrograde loops stretch the boundaries: Saturn can enter a sign, return and enter again.

Example: Moon in Sagittarius

For a Moon in Sagittarius, Sade Sati began when Saturn entered Scorpio on 2 November 2014. It moved into Sagittarius on 26 January 2017, returned to Scorpio for four months in the summer of 2017, entered Capricorn on 24 January 2020, visited Aquarius for two and a half months in the spring of 2022 and left Capricorn for good on 17 January 2023. The three phases

The first (12th from the Moon) brings expenses, fatigue, letting go of the old, sometimes a move. The second (over the Moon) is the most tangible: emotional load, responsibility, tests of health and relationships. The third (2nd from the Moon) concerns finances, family and speech; things stabilise and the work done bears fruit.

Who is in Sade Sati in 2026–2028

Saturn is now moving through sidereal Pisces. Sade Sati is running for people whose Moon is in Aquarius (third phase), Pisces (second) and Aries (first). On 2 June 2027 Saturn enters Aries: Sade Sati ends for Aquarius Moon and begins for Taurus Moon. From 20 October 2027 to 23 February 2028 Saturn stands in Pisces once more (JyotiSoft calculation, Lahiri).

What makes it hard or easy

Sade Sati is not the same for everyone. It is gentler when Saturn is strong and functionally favourable in the chart (yoga karaka for Taurus and Libra ascendants), when the Moon is strong and bright and when a favourable dasha is running. It is harder with a weak or afflicted Moon and a difficult dasha at the same time. That is why Sade Sati cannot be judged without the chart.

How to live through it

Saturn rewards discipline, honest work, patience and service. The classical advice: put your routine and finances in order, avoid unnecessary debt, look after your health — joints, back, sleep — and help elders and those who have it harder. Ritual remedies (mantras, Saturday fasting) are traditional but optional; Saturn-like behaviour is what counts.
