What the 3rd house rules
Sahaja bhava, the house of siblings, shows younger brothers and sisters and the relationship with them. It is also the house of personal effort and nerve: what you do with your own hands, your willingness to take risks, your writing, messages and short trips. Hobbies and skills practised for their own sake belong here.
Planets in the 3rd house
As an upachaya house, the 3rd improves with time and welcomes malefics: Mars, Saturn and Rahu here give courage, persistence and success through effort. Benefics give artistic or communicative talents but sometimes less drive.
When the house comes alive
The 3rd house activates in the dasha of its lord and when malefics transit it: Saturn, Mars and Rahu in the 3rd from the Moon are among the most favourable transits, bringing courage, initiative and success through one's own effort. Periods linked with the 3rd suit writing, learning a skill and short trips.
3rd lord and effort
A strong 3rd lord gives initiative and self-reliance; linked with the 10th it favours media, writing and sales. In a dusthana it may show strained relations with siblings or effort that does not pay at once.
