Manglik dosha calculator with cancellation rules

The cancellation rules the calculator applies

Tradition lists situations in which Mars's effect is considered spent. This is the list the calculator checks (after B. V. Raman, as implemented in the engine). Some schools treat the last group as only softening the dosha; JyotiSoft counts it as cancelling.

What the calculator counts

It looks at Mars in the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house counted from the lagna and from the Moon. The count from the lagna is the classical one; the count from the Moon is a later extension, and the count from Venus is shown only as a note. Some schools add the 2nd house; we do not, because with it most charts would be Manglik and the word would stop saying anything. The positions come from the same calculation as the bot and the Mini App: sidereal zodiac, Lahiri ayanamsha, whole-sign houses.

The cancellation rules

The table above lists every rule the calculator checks. Rules 1–6 are placements (Mars in a given sign in a given house); 7 and 16–17 depend on Jupiter, Saturn or Venus; 8, 9, 12 and 13 describe Mars's own condition; 10 and 15 depend on the lagna. Some schools count only the first group as true cancellation and read the others as softening; JyotiSoft counts them all, and the result lists exactly which rules fired. A later convention, without fear

Mangal dosha as it is used today is a later tradition. The classical count is from the lagna; counting from the Moon and from Venus is an extension, and schools differ on which houses count and on how much the cancellations weigh. We neither mock the tradition nor use it to frighten: the calculator names what stands where. A Manglik chart is a reason to look at a relationship more carefully, never a ban. If you do not know the birth time

Without a time there is no lagna, so only the count from the Moon can be given, and the cancellation rules, which depend on the lagna, cannot be checked. The calculator says so plainly instead of guessing. The Moon moves about 13° a day: if it changed sign on your birthday the calculator tells you, because the Moon count may then change too.

What to do with the result

If you or your partner is Manglik, look at both charts. The same dosha in both is traditionally considered balanced, Jupiter's support and the cancellations matter, and the 7th house and the 36-guna score say more than Mars alone: the compatibility calculator. Questions

Does Manglik dosha forbid marriage?

No. It is a reason to look at compatibility and at the 7th house more carefully. Many charts formally have it, the dosha has a long list of cancellations, and the decision is made from both charts.

Why does another site give a different answer?

Counts differ: some sites include the 2nd house, count from Venus as well or skip the cancellations. This calculator counts the houses shown in the result from the lagna and the Moon and lists the cancellations that apply.

What if both partners are Manglik?

Tradition considers it balanced: the same dosha on both sides cancels out. The compatibility calculator checks the couple's 36 gunas as well.

Is it true the dosha ends at 28?

That is folk belief; the classical texts give no such rule. The chart does not change with age.

Do I need a puja or a gemstone?

By the tradition a gemstone is chosen from the whole chart (the lagna lord, a trikona lord or the yogakaraka), with Mars's mantra and dana as the foundation. Whether to follow a traditional practice is a personal choice; first look at the whole chart and at the partner's chart.
