What the period is about

Ketu is the south node of the Moon, the tail of the dragon in the myth: a point without a head, which acts without planning. Its period brings detachment, sudden insights, technical or occult study, and a feeling of finishing old business. People often change direction in a Ketu dasha, sometimes without being able to explain why at the time. Seen later, it usually cleared space for what came next.

What decides the results

Ketu has no sign of its own, so astrologers read it through its sign lord and its house. In the 12th, 8th or 9th house it tends to deepen spiritual and research interests. In the 1st or 7th it can loosen ties of identity or partnership. Planets conjunct Ketu colour the whole period: with Jupiter it can give real wisdom, with Mars sharp courage, with the Moon emotional sensitivity. Schools disagree on Ketu's exaltation sign, so its lord is relied on more than its own dignity.

The antardashas

The period starts with Ketu/Ketu, about five months that often set its tone. Ketu/Venus is the longest sub-period, over a year, and frequently brings relationships, comfort or a creative project back into a sparse time. Ketu/Rahu, the meeting of the two nodes, is traditionally watched as a time of mixed signals; it is easier when both nodes are well placed in your chart.

Living it well

The period rewards simplicity: fewer commitments, more depth, careful finishing of what is open. Research, healing work, languages, coding and spiritual practice suit it. Traditional advice includes worship of Ganesha and charity; a stone for Ketu (cat's eye) the tradition gives only after a careful reading of the whole chart, with Ketu's mantra and dana first.
