A mantra is a traditional practice of speech and attention. It is not a medical or financial treatment and promises no outcome.
The words
Bhrām is the seed syllable of Rahu. Rāhave is the dative of rāhu, “to Rahu”, and namaḥ is “homage”: “Om, homage to Rahu.” Rahu is not a body in the sky but the point where the Moon's path crosses the Sun's, the north node, which Jyotish counts among the nine grahas.
How to say bhrām and rāhave
Bh is a b said with a breath of air, as in the English “abhor” if you let the h be heard, not simply b. Then the tapped r and a long vowel: bhraam, with the soft nasal hum.
In rāhave the first vowel is long (raa), and the h is a real breath between vowels: raa-ha-ve. The final e is the “ay” of “say”.
Rahu in Jyotish
Rahu signifies ambition, appetite, the foreign and the unconventional, technology and anything that stretches beyond the usual limits. It is a shadow graha: it has no sign of its own and acts through the sign and house it sits in. Ank Jyotish gives it number 4, read as an unusual path and independence.
Day and practice
The numerology book lists Saturday for Rahu, a day it shares with Shani. Practice is as for the other grahas: a steady, quiet voice, the same time each time, and 108 repetitions on a mala if you keep a count. Rahu's mantra is not said with haste; the point is calm attention.
