The words
Drām is the seed syllable of Venus. Śukrāya is the dative of śukra, “to Shukra”: the word means “bright, clear”, and it is also the name of the teacher of the demons in the old stories. Namaḥ is “homage”. The meaning: “Om, homage to Venus.”
How to say drām and śukrāya
The d of Sanskrit is dental: touch the tongue to the back of the upper teeth, not to the ridge behind them as in English. Then the tapped r and a long vowel, draam, and the soft hum.
In śukrāya start with ś (close to sh) and a short u; the cluster kr is said without a vowel between, and the long ā carries the stress: shu-kraa-ya.

Venus signifies love, the partner, beauty, art, pleasure and comfort, and it is the second great benefic after Jupiter. A well-placed Venus is read as warmth, taste and ease in relationships. Ank Jyotish gives it number 6, read as care, harmony and a love of beauty.

Its day is Friday, Śukravāra. Morning or early evening suit the mood of the graha, and white or light colours are linked to the day. Say the mantra at an even, relaxed pace; 108 repetitions on a mala are the traditional count and a few slower ones are fine to start.
