What Venus signifies

Venus is the karaka of partnership, sensuality and beauty. In a man's chart it traditionally describes the wife, and in any chart it shows how a person loves and what gives them pleasure. Music, design, fashion, cosmetics, hospitality, cars, luxury and diplomacy fall under Venus. In the body: the reproductive system, the kidneys and the face.

In myth Shukra is the sage who knows the mantra that revives the dead: Venus restores, reconciles and gives back the taste for life.

A strong and a weak Venus

Venus is exalted in Pisces (deepest at 27°), owns Taurus and Libra, and is debilitated in Virgo. A strong Venus brings charm, artistic taste and ease in relationships. In the 4th house it gains directional strength: a beautiful home, good cars, domestic warmth.

A weak Venus most often shows as high demands on a partner or a search for an ideal that is hard to find. That is a reason to work with expectations, not a verdict on marriage.

Venus and marriage

For marriage, Jyotish looks at the 7th house, its lord, Venus (and Jupiter in a woman's chart) and the navamsha (D9). Venus in the 7th house is a classic case of karaka bhava nasha — the significator sits in its own house, and the partner tends to be striking but demanding. The Venus dasha
