Jupiter retrograde: 13 December 2026 – 13 April 2027
On 13 December 2026 Jupiter stations retrograde at 2° of sidereal Leo, in Magha, and on 24 January 2027 it slips back into Cancer. It turns direct on 13 April 2027 and returns to Leo on 25 June (JyotiSoft calculation, Lahiri). For four months the planet of teachers, children and dharma looks back: a season to deepen what was started, not to rush something new.

What happens in the sky
About once a year Earth overtakes Jupiter, and for roughly four months the planet seems to move backwards against the stars. This time the loop starts at the very beginning of sidereal Leo, only weeks after Jupiter entered it on 31 October 2026, and pulls it back across the border into Cancer, the sign where classical texts call Jupiter exalted. The station falls in Magha; the whole time in Cancer is spent in Ashlesha.
What a retrograde Jupiter means
In Jyotish a retrograde planet is not weak: Parashara's shadbala gives it full strength of motion (cheshta bala). Its themes turn towards what is already in hand. For Jupiter these are teachers and learning, children, faith and ethics, savings and good counsel. People often return to a course they dropped, meet an old mentor again or see a promise from the summer come up for completion. Read more on retrograde planets.
How to use the four months
Good: finishing a degree or a course, revising a book or a business plan, renewing a vow or a daily practice, settling family money questions, giving to a teacher or a school. More careful: launching a large new venture that depends on outside goodwill, signing up for a big loan, taking advice without checking it. Retrograde motion does not erase Jupiter's significations or promise a particular result; use this period to review what is already underway.
