What happens in the sky

About three times a year Mercury overtakes Earth on the inside track and seems, for some three weeks, to move backwards. This first loop of 2027 starts in Shatabhisha in sidereal Aquarius and ends in Dhanishta in Capricorn. It begins three days after the annular solar eclipse.

What it touches

Mercury is associated with speech, writing, contracts, trade, accounts, devices, short trips and study. Some Jyotish readings use its retrograde periods as a reminder to double-check details: an attachment, delivery timing or a clause read too quickly. Old acquaintances and unfinished matters may return to attention. For you personally, the house Mercury crosses from your Moon (table below) and the houses it rules in your chart matter most.

How to use the time

Good: reread and clarify agreements, back up data, repair devices, edit a text or a product, return to postponed study, reconnect with old contacts. More careful: signing important things without a second check, buying devices or a car in a hurry, launching untested work. Jyotish does not forbid action in a retrograde; it asks for care. More on retrograde planets.

Other transits around it

The period sits inside Jupiter's stay in Cancer and the Mars retrograde, so early 2027 has three planets looking back at once. For plans that need many signatures, build in time to review each one; retrograde is not a ban on acting.
