These are the questions astrologers hear most often, and the ones people ask us in the bot. The answers are short and honest; each links to a full article or a calculator.

“When?”: timing

Can a chart show when I will get married?
It can show the periods when marriage is an active theme: the dashas of the 7th lord and Venus and the transits of Jupiter. These are windows of likelihood, not a date. More in when marriage comes in the chart.
When will I find a job?
Astrologers look at the 10th house, its lord, the dashas of the planets involved and the transits of Saturn and Jupiter. See work and calling in the chart.
When will things get easier?
Relief usually coincides with a change of mahadasha or antardasha and with Saturn leaving a difficult transit. How to read such periods: how Jyotish answers “when?”.
How accurate are dated predictions?
Dashas give years, antardashas months, transits refine weeks. Astrology does not fix the exact date of an event; an honest forecast says “more likely in this period”.

Doshas without fear

I have Mangal dosha. Is it dangerous for marriage?
No. It has many classical cancellations, and the conclusion is drawn from both partners' charts. See Mangal dosha.
I was told I have Kaal Sarp Dosh. What should I do?
Nothing urgent. It is absent from the classical texts; what matters is which houses Rahu and Ketu occupy and when their dashas run. See Kala Sarpa.
Is Sade Sati seven and a half years of misfortune?
No. It is a period of responsibility and restructuring, and how hard it is depends on the whole chart. Check your dates in the Sade Sati calculator.
What is Pitra dosha?
Combinations of the Sun and the 9th house with Rahu, Ketu or Saturn that later tradition links with an “ancestral debt”. The classics have no such dosha. See Pitra dosha.

Birth time

I don't know my birth time. Is the chart useless?
No. The planets' signs and usually the nakshatra are reliable, and the chart is read from the Moon. The lagna and houses are unknown. See a chart without a birth time.
Can the birth time be refined?
Yes, by rectification: from the traits of the lagna and the dates of life events. The JyotiSoft bot has free refinement by questions. See rectification.
How exact does the time need to be?
For the lagna, 10–15 minutes is usually enough unless it is near the edge of a sign; the navamsha needs minutes.
How do I find my nakshatra?
From the Moon's sidereal longitude — the nakshatra calculator also shows the calculation step by step.

Why programs show different things

Why do two apps show me different charts?
Almost always different settings: zodiac, ayanamsha, time zone on the birth date, node type. See why programs show different charts.
Why is my sign different in a Vedic chart?
Jyotish counts the signs from the stars, Western astrology from the equinox; the gap is now about 24°. See sidereal vs tropical.
Which ayanamsha is right?
There is no single proven answer; India's standard is Lahiri. Compare the ayanamshas on your own Moon in the article on the ayanamsha.
North or South Indian chart — which is correct?
Both: they are different drawings of the same data. See chart styles.

Relationships and compatibility

What do the 36 gunas mean?
They are the total of eight Ashtakuta checks on the Moon nakshatras of two people. Check a couple in the compatibility calculator.
We have few gunas. Does that mean we cannot be together?
Gunas are only part of the picture; the classics look at both whole charts, the 7th house and the dashas. A low score is a reason to talk, not a ban. See Ashtakuta.
Only one partner has the dosha. Is that bad?
Check the cancellations first — there are many. The conclusion is drawn from both charts.
Can a chart show what my partner will be like?
Tradition describes traits through the 7th house, its lord, Venus and the darakaraka. It is a description of tendencies, not a portrait.

Work, money, health

Will the chart show whether I will be rich?
A chart shows tendencies and periods: the 2nd and 11th houses, dhana yogas, dashas. We give no financial advice or promises. See raja and dhana yogas.
Which profession suits me?
Astrologers look at the 10th house and its lord, the amatyakaraka and the dashamsha (D10). More in work and calling in the chart.
Can a chart tell me about illness?
Tradition speaks of predispositions, but a chart makes no diagnoses. For health questions, see a doctor.
Should I change jobs now?
For a yes-or-no decision Jyotish has prashna, an answer from the moment of the question. You can ask it in the JyotiSoft bot.

Remedies (upayas)

Do I need to wear a gemstone?
When the chart calls for it. A gemstone is an authoritative classical upaya: the tradition chooses it from the whole chart (the lagna lord, a trikona lord or the yogakaraka) and it is worn after its mantra. See upayas.
Do mantras and fasts help?
The classics treat conduct, service, mantra and fasting as the main upayas. They are practices of discipline and attention, not a deal with a planet.
Do I need a puja for a dosha?
Not to read the chart. If a ritual matters to you as part of your faith, that is a personal choice.
Why don't you sell rituals?
Because the price of “removing a dosha” usually rests on fear. We explain the chart and do not sell deliverance from it.

No. Jyotish shows the periods when a theme is active; it does not fix the exact date.
Are doshas dangerous?
No. They are features of a chart; most have cancellations, and some are later tradition.
Is a chart useless without a birth time?
No. The planets and usually the nakshatra are reliable; the chart is read from the Moon.
Why do programs show different charts?
Because of different settings: zodiac, ayanamsha, time zone, node type.
