Aquarius ascendant (Kumbha lagna)

The planets for this ascendant

Roles follow Parashara's house-lordship rule (BPHS ch. 34) as the JyotiSoft engine applies it: lords of the trines (1, 5, 9) help, lords of the 6th, 8th and 12th strain, and a planet that rules both an angle (4, 7, 10) and a trine is the yogakaraka. Some schools also count the 3rd and 11th lords as difficult and the 2nd and 7th lords as marakas. What a planet actually does depends on its strength and placement too.

Meeting the world

Aquarius is the fixed air sign. The texts describe its rising as independent, humane, thoughtful and a little detached, with friends in many circles and a taste for the unconventional. People with this lagna often care about people in general more easily than about one person in particular, and learning closeness is part of their path.

Saturn, the lagna lord

Saturn rules the 1st and the 12th house here. A strong Saturn gives integrity, endurance and the capacity to serve large causes; it also links this lagna to distant places and spiritual retreat. A weak one can bring isolation or fatigue. Saturn's house shows where this person invests effort and principle.

The yogakaraka and the difficult planets

Venus rules the 4th (home, comfort, vehicles) and the 9th (fortune, teachers): the yogakaraka, and its periods are often among the best. Mercury is mixed: it rules the 5th, a trine, but also the 8th. The Moon rules the 6th and strains, which makes emotional health and routine a theme. The Sun (7th), Mars (3rd and 10th) and Jupiter (2nd and 11th) are neutral in the engine's table.

Career and partnership

The 10th house is Scorpio, ruled by Mars: careers in research, technology, engineering, medicine, investigation or crisis work. The 7th is Leo, ruled by the Sun: the partner is often warm, proud and visible, a counterweight to Aquarian reserve. Relationships work when both respect independence and loyalty alike.

Venus and Saturn first. The lagna's nakshatra (Dhanishta, Shatabhisha or Purva Bhadrapada) adds rhythm, healing or idealism. A Venus mahadasha is often a high point for Aquarius rising; a Moon period asks for care with health and routine.
