Muhurat
Muhurat for signing a contract
A contract is the lightest of the large muhurats: four nakshatras, the days of Mercury and Jupiter, and no seasonal bans — so good days come almost every week.
The rules JyotiSoft checks for this event
| Nakshatras the event wants | Pushya, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Anuradha |
|---|---|
| Nakshatras it refuses | Bharani, Ashlesha |
| Favourable weekdays | Wednesday, Thursday |
| Checked for every event | Vishti (Bhadra) karana counts against the day; the tithis Chaturthi, Navami, Chaturdashi and Amavasya count against it, Dwitiya, Panchami, Dashami, Ekadashi, Dwadashi and Trayodashi for it; the day's yoga adds or subtracts a point. |

Nakshatras
Four stars are recommended: Pushya — support and good faith; Hasta — skill and a clear hand; Anuradha — friendship and keeping one's word; Uttara Phalguni — the star of agreements and patronage. Bharani and Ashlesha are refused: one brings burdens, the other hidden intentions. Other generally auspicious nakshatras add a little to the day.
Weekdays
Wednesday belongs to Mercury, the planet of documents, trade and words; Thursday to Jupiter, the planet of law and fairness. No weekday is ruled out, but these two raise the score.
No seasonal bans
Unlike a wedding or a purchase, a contract has no period bans in the JyotiSoft calendar: Chaturmas and Kharmas do not close it. What matters is the day itself — its nakshatra, weekday, tithi and karana. Bhadra karana and the rikta tithis count against it.
The moment of signing
Sign outside Rahu kalam. Be aware of Mercury's retrograde periods: the classical rules do not ban them, but many astrologers advise rereading a contract signed then.
