Nakshatras
Anuradha nakshatra

The nature of Anuradha
Anuradha's symbol is the lotus: a flower that rises from dark water towards the light. Mitra is the patron of friendship, agreements and mutual support. It is the nakshatra of loyalty, teamwork, diplomacy and a spiritual practice that survives hardship. Saturn teaches patience; Scorpio gives depth.
The Moon in Anuradha
People with the Moon in Anuradha are friendly, devoted and good team players. They often succeed far from home or in large organisations. The Moon in Scorpio is debilitated, so emotions run deep; friendship and faith help them keep their balance. The risk is swallowing resentment and wearing themselves out on others' expectations.
The dasha sequence begins with Saturn (19 years).
Emotionally, Anuradha needs friendship and loyalty; it gives devotion and expects it back. Loneliness is hard for it. What helps: a close circle of friends, group practice or service, and trust that does not need constant proof. These are traditional tendencies, not a verdict; the full chart matters.
The four padas
| Pada | Span (sidereal) | Navamsha sign | Name syllable |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Scorpio 3°20′ – 6°40′ | Leo (Simha) | Na |
| 2 | Scorpio 6°40′ – 10°00′ | Virgo (Kanya) | Ni |
| 3 | Scorpio 10°00′ – 13°20′ | Libra (Tula) | Nu |
| 4 | Scorpio 13°20′ – 16°40′ | Scorpio (Vrishchika) | Ne |
Pada 1 (Leo navamsha, syllable Na) is proud and loyal, a natural organiser. Pada 2 (Virgo, Ni) is precise and service-minded. Pada 3 (Libra, Nu) is diplomatic, artistic and social. Pada 4 (Scorpio, Ne) is vargottama: sign and navamsha are both Scorpio — the most intense, devoted and private.
All four padas lie in Scorpio, Mars's sign; Saturn rules the nakshatra, so devotion here is patient and durable.
Anuradha in the classical texts
The Taittiriya Brahmana gives Anuradha to Mitra, the Aditya of friendship, agreements and daylight. Later authors read its gift (shakti) as the power of worship, radhana. Brihat Samhita (chapter 98) counts Anuradha among the soft (mridu) nakshatras, with Mrigashira, Chitra and Revati: friendship, marriage, art and gentle beginnings. In Vimshottari it belongs to Saturn, so an Anuradha Moon begins life in a nineteen-year Saturn period.
Its name means “following Radha”, the next star after Vishakha, which the older lists called Radha. Mitra and Varuna are invoked together in the Vedas, and Anuradha keeps that sense of a bond held by a promise.
Anuradha in relationships
In relationships Anuradha is loyal, devoted and protective; friendship is the base of its love. It can be possessive when insecure. Partners who are faithful and include it in a wider circle of friends see its warmth.
For matching, Anuradha is deva gana, deer yoni and Madhya nadi. Its yoni twin is Jyeshtha; the dog (Ardra, Mula) is the deer's classical enemy. Two Madhya nadi charts lose the nadi points. The compatibility calculator gives any pair.
Work and strengths
Strengths: teamwork, loyalty, perseverance and organisation. Good fields: management of teams and organisations, diplomacy, research, mining and engineering, psychology, astrology, and spiritual and community work.
Saturn gives patience; Mars, the sign lord, gives courage. Anuradha succeeds through alliances; it should choose its partners carefully and keep its agreements in writing.
What Anuradha is good for
Anuradha is a “soft” (mridu) nakshatra: for friendship, weddings, forming partnerships, art and beginning a spiritual practice.
The ascendant and planets in Anuradha
An ascendant in Anuradha gives a loyal, warm presence and a talent for bringing people together. Saturn here, in the nakshatra it rules, makes a patient organiser and a faithful friend. Mars in Anuradha is in Scorpio, its own sign: courage for long efforts. The Moon in Anuradha is debilitated in sign but finds strength in devotion and friendship. Jupiter here supports spiritual practice and counsel.
During Saturn's dasha Anuradha themes of teamwork, perseverance and faithful practice come forward.
Remedies and practice
Anuradha's practice is friendship kept. Tradition suggests honouring Mitra with a name mantra such as “Om Mitraya namah” at sunrise, keeping agreements, and supporting a friend in need. For the ruling graha, Saturn, the classical mantra is on our mantras page; Saturdays are traditional for it. Serving in a group, from a temple to a volunteer team, is Anuradha's own remedy. Its shadow is clinging; trust frees it. The days of the Moon's passage through Anuradha suit friendship and gentle beginnings. A gemstone is a classical upaya too: the tradition chooses it from the whole chart (functional benefics, the running dasha), with mantra and charity as the foundation; practices are optional and do not guarantee outcomes. For context, see remedies (upayas).
