The nature of Revati
Revati is often glossed as “prosperous”. Pushan guides travellers along safe roads, finds what was lost and feeds the herds. Its symbol is a fish swimming in the ocean, or a drum that marks time. It is the nakshatra of compassion, care for the vulnerable, journeys and a gentle passage to the next cycle.
The end of Revati is the Pisces–Aries gandanta, the point where the whole circle of nakshatras closes.
The Moon in Revati
People with the Moon in Revati are kind, sensitive and generous. They care well for children, animals and anyone in trouble, and love art and travel. Mercury gives intelligence and a sense of humour. The weak spot is naivety and vulnerability to other people's problems; keeping healthy boundaries matters.
The dasha sequence begins with Mercury (17 years).
Emotionally, Revati needs gentleness and safety; it is sensitive and empathetic. Harsh environments drain it. What helps: kindness to itself, creative or spiritual practice, caring for animals, and firm routines. These are traditional tendencies, not a verdict; the full chart matters.
The four padas
| Pada | Span (sidereal) | Navamsha sign | Name syllable |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Pisces 16°40′ – 20°00′ | Sagittarius (Dhanu) | De |
| 2 | Pisces 20°00′ – 23°20′ | Capricorn (Makara) | Do |
| 3 | Pisces 23°20′ – 26°40′ | Aquarius (Kumbha) | Cha |
| 4 | Pisces 26°40′ – 30°00′ | Pisces (Mina) | Chi |
Pada 1 (Sagittarius navamsha, syllable De) is optimistic and philosophical. Pada 2 (Capricorn, Do) is practical and responsible. Pada 3 (Aquarius, Cha) is humanitarian and inventive. Pada 4 (Pisces, Chi) is vargottama: the most spiritual and compassionate; it ends at the Pisces–Aries gandanta.
All four padas lie in Pisces, Jupiter's sign; Mercury rules the nakshatra, so imagination and intellect meet here.
Revati in the classical texts
The Taittiriya Brahmana gives Revati to Pushan, the guardian of roads, herds and travellers. Later authors read its gift (shakti) as the power of nourishment. Brihat Samhita (chapter 98) counts Revati among the soft (mridu) nakshatras, with Mrigashira, Chitra and Anuradha: friendship, marriage, art and gentle beginnings. In Vimshottari it belongs to Mercury, so a Revati Moon begins life in a seventeen-year Mercury period.
The end of Revati closes the circle of 27 nakshatras at the Pisces–Aries gandanta; birth texts call for a calming rite for a child born in its last pada.
Revati in relationships
In relationships Revati is gentle, caring and romantic; it is protective of the people it loves. It can be over-sensitive or too accommodating. Partners who are kind and steady give it the safety it needs.
For matching, Revati is deva gana, elephant yoni and Antya nadi. Its yoni twin is Bharani; the lion (Dhanishta, Purva Bhadrapada) is the elephant's classical enemy. Two Antya nadi charts lose the nadi points. The compatibility calculator gives any pair.
Work and strengths
Strengths: compassion, imagination, care and guidance. Good fields: travel and transport, caring professions, art, music and film, teaching, charity, spiritual guidance, animal care.
Mercury gives communication; Jupiter, the sign lord, gives faith. Revati does best in work that helps others on their way; it should set firm boundaries to protect its energy.
What Revati is good for
Revati is a “soft” (mridu) nakshatra: for weddings, travel, art, buying jewellery, friendship and anything that calls for gentleness.
The ascendant and planets in Revati
An ascendant in Revati gives a gentle, kind and imaginative nature. Venus in Revati is exalted in sign, with its deepest point at 27° Pisces inside this nakshatra: devotion, art and compassion. Jupiter here, in its own sign, gives faith and generosity. Mercury in Revati, its own nakshatra but debilitated in sign, thinks in images and intuition. The Moon here is caring and protective of the vulnerable.
During Mercury's dasha Revati themes of care, journeys and creative imagination come forward.
Remedies and practice
Revati's practice is safe passage for others. Tradition suggests honouring Pushan with a name mantra such as “Om Pushne namah”, helping travellers, feeding animals and caring for the lost and vulnerable. For the ruling graha, Mercury, the classical mantra is on our mantras page; Wednesdays are traditional for it. For a birth in the Revati gandanta, families often do a shanti puja with their priest. Its shadow is over-sensitivity; firm routines protect it. A gemstone is a classical upaya too: the tradition chooses it from the whole chart (functional benefics, the running dasha), with mantra and charity as the foundation; practices are optional and do not guarantee outcomes. For context, see remedies (upayas).
