The planets for this ascendant

Roles follow Parashara's house-lordship rule (BPHS ch. 34) as the JyotiSoft engine applies it: lords of the trines (1, 5, 9) help, lords of the 6th, 8th and 12th strain, and a planet that rules both an angle (4, 7, 10) and a trine is the yogakaraka. Some schools also count the 3rd and 11th lords as difficult and the 2nd and 7th lords as marakas. What a planet actually does depends on its strength and placement too.

Meeting the world

Classical texts describe Aries rising as quick in movement, frank in speech and impatient with delay. In modern terms: a person who prefers to act and adjust rather than plan everything first. The first reaction is usually honest and the second is usually wiser, and learning to wait for the second is a theme for many Aries lagnas. The sign is fiery and movable. It begins things easily; maintaining them takes conscious effort.

Mars, the lagna lord

Everything depends on Mars. Strong and well placed (in its own signs, exalted in Capricorn, or in an angle), it gives stamina, leadership and the nerve to compete. Weak or afflicted, the same fire turns into haste, accidents of impatience or quarrels that cost more than they win. Because Mars also rules the 8th, an Aries lagna often meets sudden changes and comes out of them stronger. Look at the house Mars occupies: that is where this person spends their energy.

Friends and difficult planets

The Sun rules the 5th house of intelligence and children, and Jupiter rules the 9th house of fortune and teachers (and the 12th, which does not spoil a trine lord). Both are functional benefics, and their periods often bring recognition and growth. Mercury rules the 3rd and 6th and is the planet that strains: its periods bring effort, competition and health routines. Saturn rules the 10th and 11th, career and gains, and is neutral in the engine's table; many astrologers add that its 11th lordship makes it a mixed friend. Career and partnership

The 10th house is Capricorn, ruled by Saturn: careers built over time, through responsibility and structure, often in engineering, administration, the military or any field where discipline is rewarded. The 7th is Libra, ruled by Venus: the partner tends to bring balance, taste and diplomacy, the qualities the Aries person lacks. Relationships work when the Aries partner learns to negotiate rather than win.

Reading your own chart

Check the degree of the lagna (early, middle or late in Aries changes the nakshatra: Ashwini, Bharani or Krittika), the sign and house of Mars, and planets sitting in the 1st house. Then look at the running dasha: a Sun or Jupiter period usually opens doors for this ascendant; a Mercury period asks for patience with details.
