Bhadra yoga (Mercury)

How often it forms

Share of 3,000 charts computed by the JyotiSoft engine for random births (1950–2010, any hour, places from 40° S to 60° N). A common yoga is not a lesser one, but its presence alone says little; what matters is its strength in the whole chart.

What it gives

The classical picture is a learned, witty, well-spoken person with a youthful look and a gift for commerce, writing and counsel. Today the yoga often shows in analysts, writers, teachers, programmers, traders, lawyers and anyone whose work is to understand and explain. It gives versatility, and sometimes the restlessness that comes with it.

What makes it strong

Mercury moves close to the Sun and is often combust; a combust Mercury still forms Bhadra by the rule, but its fruits are quieter. Mercury also takes the colour of its company: with Jupiter or Venus the yoga gains wisdom or grace, with Mars or Saturn it becomes sharper or more serious. Its dasha, seventeen years long, is when it works most visibly.

Living with it

A strong Mercury thrives on learning and suffers from noise. The best use of the yoga is a craft of the mind practised for years: one language mastered, one field understood in depth. Scattered interests waste it.
