Ruchaka yoga (Mars)
Ruchaka is the Mahapurusha yoga of Mars, one of five “great person” combinations. It forms when Mars is both dignified and in an angle of the chart, and it describes a person of courage, energy and command.
How the JyotiSoft engine checks it
Mars in Aries or Scorpio (its own signs) or in Capricorn (its exaltation), standing in the 1st, 4th, 7th or 10th house counted from the lagna. Some modern astrologers also count the angles from the Moon; the engine, like the classical texts, counts from the lagna only.

What it gives
The texts describe the Ruchaka native as strong-bodied, bold, competitive and fond of command, someone who leads in action rather than in words. In modern life the yoga often shows in sport, the armed forces, surgery, engineering, policing, firefighting or running a business that needs nerve. It is energy that wants a task.
What makes it strong
An angle magnifies whatever stands in it, so the house matters. In the 10th, Mars pushes the career; in the 1st it shapes the body and temperament; in the 4th it ties drive to property and home; in the 7th it brings strong partners and rivals. Aspects from Saturn or a debilitated dispositor temper it; Jupiter's aspect adds judgement. The yoga gives most in Mars's own dasha or antardasha.
The shadow side
Strong Mars in an angle is also the core of what popular astrology calls Mangal dosha. The two are not the same thing, and a dignified Mars is very different from an afflicted one. The practical advice is classical and simple: give the energy a worthy outlet, and anger will not need to find one.
